Option 1

Depending on the variant, either the first one or two digits represents the year of manufacture. The following two digits represent the week of manufacture.

Variant 1: The year is represented by a single digit.

This would read as being manufactured in the 21st week of 2008.

Year is Green, Week is Light Blue.

Variant 2: The year is represented by two digits.
Example Serial Number

This would read as being manufactured in the 13th week of 2008.

Year is Green, Week is Light Blue.

Option 2

The first three characters are used. The first letter represents the year (C = 1988). The second and third characters represent the week of manufacture.

This format was used between 1983 and 2001.
Example Serial Number
C 1 2 1 2 3 4 5 6
This would read as being manufactured in the 17th week of 1988.

Year is Green, Week is Light Blue.

Option 3

The first character of the serial number represents the manufacturing plant. The second and third characters represent the year (96 = 1996). The fourth character represents the month (E = May).

This serial number format may still be used in some current products.

Option 4

Either the first letter or final letter represents the year of manufacture in this limited use serial number format used exclusively between 1981 and 1983.

The first character represents the year, and the second character represents the month.

Option 7

The first character represents the month (E = May). The following two characters represent the year (85 = 1985).

Used commonly from the 1970's through the 1990's.
