HVAC Age / Serial Decoder
Option 1
The first four characters of the serial number are ignored. Characters 5 & 6 (12 = 2012) represent the year of manufacture. Characters 7 & 8 (09 = September) represents the month.
This is the current known serial number format.
Example Serial Number

This would read as being manufactured in September of 2012.
Year is Green, Month is Yellow.
Option 2
This format is a bit strange and does require some concentration to get right. The first four characters of the serial number represent the year (2043 = Year 2000). The second two represent the week.
This format is generally for Daikin-McQuay Mini Split Systems.
Example Serial Number

This would read as being manufactured in the 32nd week of 2000.
Year is Green, Week is Light Blue.
